Southwest Vascular Access Center Receives National Recognition at Physician Operators Forum

Alsip, Illinois. 4/13/11 – Lifeline Vascular Access presented the Expanding Patient Care award to Southwest Vascular Access Center (SVAC) at the national Physician Operators Forum (POF) in Atlanta on April 10 for streamlining surgical consults and providing outstanding patient service. The Alsip center was also recognized at the event as a “Training Center of Excellence.”

During the past year, SVAC significantly reduced the need for patients to travel to several locations by essentially bringing more patient services under one roof – in the form of Dr. David M. Shapiro, attending surgeon at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL.

Since Dr. Shapiro joined SVAC last August, patients have benefited from having the distinguished surgeon available at the outpatient facility – reducing the need for trips to the hospital as well as doctor office visits. Traveling to multiple locations for care is a difficult and challenging proposition for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and other vascular-related illnesses.

The Expanding Patient Care award is presented annually by Lifeline Vascular Access to recognize an organization that has advanced beyond dialysis access to providing more and better care for patients. Also at the Physician Operators Forum, Lifeline Vascular Access recognized SVAC as a “Training Center of Excellence” where physicians may receive state-of-the-art training in endovascular procedures.

“For all of us at SVAC, it begins and ends with compassionate, proactive, and comprehensive care for our patients,” said Daniel McCormick, M.D., Medical Director at SVAC. “This recognition is significant in that it sheds a light on their care, not only from a logistics standpoint, but from a quality of life issue. Our patients face extremely difficult circumstances every day, and Dr. Shapiro has helped tremendously in this effort to ease their burden – as have all our physicians and nurses.”

SVAC provides effective and efficient vascular access care to patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The center is located at 12250 S. Cicero Ave., Suite 112, Alsip, IL. Information about the facility, its member physicians and services are available by calling 708-371-5308.
